What is Diagnostic Imaging?
The term “diagnostic imaging” refers to a variety of techniques used to obtain an image of the interior of the body, so that the causes of disease can be identified. It can also be used to determine how well a patient’s body is responding to treatment or to monitor the status of a healing fracture. Diagnostic imaging methods include x-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and ultrasound.
Most imaging procedures are non-invasive, easy, and painless. Some scans do require the patient to remain still for long periods of time, often in a confined space inside the machine, which can cause some discomfort.
MCHD’s imaging department offers general diagnostic radiology, computed tomography (CT), MRI and ultrasound.
General Diagnostic Radiology
These are radiology exams used to evaluate conditions from suspected bone fractures to indications of injury to diseases of the gastrointestinal system. They are performed with radiography equipment for excellent image quality and accuracy.
Computed Tomography (CT) Scan
A CT scan involves a series of x-ray images taken from various angles. Computer software then combines these images into cross-sectional images of the targeted tissues inside the body. CT scans can be used to evaluate the spine, brain, abdomen, neck and chest. They provide clear images of both hard and soft tissues. Doctors can use CT scans to make fast treatment decisions when they are required.
Our GE 32/64 Slice Revolution Evo CT scanner is the industry standard for CT scanning. This incredible machine opens new doors for accessing images of today’s most pressing health care conditions. The 32/64 slice gives 32 crystal clear images per rotation. You will receive a much more accurate diagnosis than ever before, with less radiation. CT scanning is an imaging technology that uses multiple channels and computers to create detailed, cross sectional images of specific areas of the body. These images may be used to identify fractures, infections, tumors, or other abnormalities. CT scanning is under the “Image Gently” standards at Martin County Hospital District to keep radiation doses as low as possible.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound, also known as sonography, uses safe, high-frequency waves instead of radiation to create images of the body’s interior. It’s especially safe for pregnant women. But it’s not just for expecting mothers; it’s versatile enough to assess a range of issues like abdominal problems, circulation, urology, obstetrics, newborn care, and even musculoskeletal conditions.
The new Mindray DC8 & M9 offer top-notch imaging quality in a compact, user-friendly design, perfect for various tests including general, pediatric, vascular, and obstetrical ultrasounds. This cutting-edge system ensures your physician gets the clearest images in the shortest time possible, for the best care possible. And don’t worry about discomfort or radiation exposure; these tests are painless and non-invasive.
